Stan Topolsk says…"I would say the WOWI has been a great part of the success of students moving from public assistance to full-time family wage employment. We start our fourth year using WOWI as our principal assessment tool. Students for the most part have never participated in such an in-depth discovery process... they truly can see themselves and buy into the results and begin the process to mainstream living and family fulfillment."

about wowi
The World of Work Inventory (WOWI) is a comprehensive career assessment instrument. It consists of five sections. The first two are Identifying Information and Self-selected Choices.
1. Identifying Information
This section includes the test taker's vital statistics, i.e. name, level of education, etc.
2. Self-selected Choices
In this section the test taker selects two occupational choices and two best like school subjects.
The next three areas measure career interest, aptitude/achievement and work styles.
3. Career Interest Activities
This section consists of 136 items in which the person is asked to respond whether they like, or dislike or are neutral to each job-related activity. This is force choice method. There are 17 homogenous scales and the items from the scales have been placed through the use of a table of random numbers.
4. Career Training Potentials
This section includes 98 items measuring 6 aptitude-achievement areas. The items within have been spiraled and placed within the scales according to degree of difficulty. The Verbal and Numerical are measuring the more traditional ability to do public school work of aptitude-achievement. The Abstraction and Spatial-Form section are aptitude oriented, while the Clerical and Mechanical-Electrical are achievement oriented. The Verbal, Numerical, Spatial-Form and Clerical scales are attempting to measure the same factors as are found in Volume II of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles: (D.O.T.) The subject is asked to make their favored response of four choices given.
5. Job Satisfaction Indicators
This section consists of 96 items measuring 12 job temperament areas. The person is asked to respond whether they like, dislike or are neutral to a job temperament indicator. The scales are homogenous and individual scale items are assigned position via a table of random numbers. The scales are attempting to measure the 12 job temperament areas found in Volume II of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, (DOT).
