Q: I have a variety of career interests, what resources will help focus my energy on one or two career fields?

A: Having many career interests is a common question and needs to be addressed through career assessment. We can spend our whole life moving from job to job or college to college and hope to find the right career or training match. A great place to begin is picking the right career assessment resource to set the foundation for the right career plan. Assessments measure many different factors. Careers assessments will measure personality traits, skills, values, and interests to name a few. Career assessments can measure one factor or many at the same time. I would recommend assessing your personality, interests, and abilities together; this will give you 3 primary factors to help with career and college choice. The Careers 2000 & Beyond Center offers one such assessment called the World of Work Inventory (WOWI) for a small fee and is available to the general public. Also, if you are a college student or graduate, contact your career services office to inquire about career assessment resources they might offer. Assessments are like a single tool in your toolbox, tap into as many tools to fill your toolbox, like career advisors, the internet, your local library, and professionals in the field. The more tools you have in your toolbox the better the building. If you would like to learn more about career assessments contact the Careers 2000 & Beyond Center at 920-498-5422.
