Often the careers individuals pick are selected from just a very small number of jobs they're aware of. And because people are generally unfamiliar with the wide variety of jobs that exist, they tend to pursue occupations based on little information or an unrealistic view of those occupations.

The Dictionary of Occupational Titles lists over 12,000 occupations,while the Department of Labor registers over 44,000 jobs. Perhaps the job you are thinking about is not as suited to you as one of the thousands you don't even know about.
